Project duration: 6 months (preparatory activities)
The project has been funded under measure Recording of Project Ideas/Proposals of European Territorial Cooperation Programme (INTERREG IVA), Greece – Bulgaria 2007 – 2013.
It has envisaged rehabilitation and construction works over a derelict village road and its connection to the main road Rudozem-Xanthi. The road that was rehabilitated starts from the village of Oriahovets, passes by the village of Kupen and reaches the village of Varbina. The part of the road from Oriahovets to Kupen is located in the Banite Municipality, while the section from Kupen to Varbina is sited in Madan Municipality. Before the project the road distance between the two municipalities Banite and Madan was 40 km. With the rehabilitation of the derelict road that distance has been shortened by 20 km. In addition the road has been connected to the already existing main cross-border road Rudozem – Xanthi thus facilitating the movement across the border.
