GOALS

The second group of problems is related to employees in SMEs. Vocational education and training of staff in SMEs often happens through on the job-training and consequently the acquired skills and competences are difficult to transfer or to prove. Defining a methodology for identification and recognition of non-formal and informal learning will give individuals greater autonomy and improved job prospects and will allow society to make better use of all forms of learning and skills.
The project will concentrate on the following subjects:

  • in depth definition of non-formal and informal learning
  • definition of learning occurring in the workplace
  • strategies that are being adopted to facilitate informal learning in the workplace
  • methods for recording the non-formal and informal learning taking place
  • defining the value of non-formal and informal learning to the employer and to the employee

For achieving the above described objectives the partners intend to use the following approaches:

  • research;
  • comparative analysis;
  • deduction.

Research is basic part of the project implementation and will be used to gather statistics concerning the methods for evaluation and recognition of skills and competences acquired through non-formal and informal ways, to identify key concepts and theories, to investigate best policies and practices.
Comparative analysis will be used to see the differences and resemblances in the 5 partner countries as regards the needs and problems of the target groups, the applied approaches for resolving those problems and the opportunities for improvement. Thus the major target groups and main problems will be further specified. This approach will also allow the partners to compare methodologies and measures used in the different European countries and to see the advantages and disadvantages of different policies.
On the basis of all discussions and findings achieved through research and comparative analysis, the deductive method will be used to draw conclusions and develop the methodology with a set of tools suitable to recognize and provide evidence for the learning methods within the European SMEs with focus on non-formal and informal learning.
